Allied Arts is the Recipient of a $15,000 NEA Grant
The National Endowment for the Arts recently announced a $15,000 Learning in the Arts grant award to Allied Arts of Greater Chattanooga to fund an arts and literacy project: Book It! The grant is just one of two awarded in the NEA’s Learning in the Arts category in the state.
The Book It! grant project will involve local teaching artists and classroom teachers who will lead students in grades 3-5 to write and illustrate their own books. After the books are completed, the students will bring their original work to life through theatre and dance. Students will also attend theatre and dance productions based on literary works presented by both local and professional touring companies.
To assist the teaching artists and classroom teachers with the implementation of the project, nationally recognized literacy expert Claudia Cornett will lead workshops and serve as project consultant.
