Posted on Mar 21 2011 Back
A cultural planning process that will chart the future of the arts community for the Chattanooga, Hamilton County region began March 2, 2011 with the convening of a steering committee comprised of 43 community leaders. The Chairs of Cultural Plan 2011 are Mrs. Ruth Holmberg and Mr. Tom White with Chattanooga Mayor Ron Littlefield and Hamilton County Mayor Jim Coppinger serving as Honorary Co-Chairs. Allied Arts of Greater Chattanooga is serving as the convener of the process which is being funded through grants from the National Endowment for the Arts, the Kresge Foundation, the Tennessee Arts Commission and local foundations.
Dr. Tom Wolf with WolfBrown, a Massachusetts-based consulting firm that specializes in working with arts organizations, has been hired as the lead consultant for Cultural Plan 2011. Dr. Wolf has led more than 20 community cultural plans across the country. Dr. Wolf recently completed an analysis of Allied Arts and its 14 funded agencies through a grant awarded to Allied Arts in October, 2009 from the Kresge Foundation focused on capacity building and sustainability.
According to Dr. Wolf, Cultural Plan 2011 will focus on three core areas:- Explore the strategic placement of the arts to address community issues such as education, jobs, crime, and environment
- Increase efficiency and productivity of the arts organizations
- Expand benefits of the arts to all areas of the community
The next step of Cultural Plan 2011 will focus on arts education. Dr. Dennie Palmer Wolf, a nationally recognized leader in arts education research with WolfBrown will be in Chattanooga March 29-31 to meet with education leaders and members of the arts community.
